Take a tour into castle’s history
The castle is running Kids Activity Tours on Wednesdays throughout August, with costumed guides and activities to give children a taste of what life there may have been like in centuries gone by.
This year, visitors can see areas closed to the public for years since the castle is no longer a Category C prison.

They can even experience what it’s like to be locked in - but assistant museum manager Rachael Jackson said: “There will be plenty of chance to escape if it’s not your cup of tea!”
Tickets for the tours, for ages five to 12, are £6.50, are selling fast so booking is essential on 01524 64998.
