A fresh plan for a 6mx3m screen next to the Wycliffe Memorial Church in Ashton has been lodged with the city council - by the same company which had a similar screen less than a mile away turned down on appeal last month.
Clear Channel UK is asking for permission to erect the illuminated LED digital board in place of an existing advertising hoarding on Tulketh Brow.

But undaunted by that, Clear Channel is pressing ahead with its application for a digital screen adjacent to Wycliffe Church which will show up to 48 adverts at 10 second intervals both day and night.
“Such displays are now increasingly common as the advertising industry moves towards more flexible and sustainable media platforms,” says the company in its application.
The screen would by erected three metres off the ground on top of a “vertical meadow” growing wall of plants.

Days later Preston Council also rejected an application from a different company for one on the gable end of a building in London Road on the same grounds that it was too intrusive.
