We’ve taken a walk through the grounds of yesteryear to bring you archive pictures showing how the beautiful grounds of this once grand manor house evolved through more recent times. The old hall itself was victim of a devastating fire in 1951 and much of the burnt-out shell was later demolished, leaving only older Derby Wing intact. Worden Park is a popular place to visit for many in the area and we hope our potted history will open your eyes further. READ MORE: Leyland in the 80s and 90s. 1. Worden Hall and Park
This image of the conservatory at Worden Hall was taken in 1982. The structure has been a focal point in the formal gardens since it was first built in the 1860s when the grounds formed part of the estate of the ffarington family who were the owners of Worden Hall and the surrounding parkland up until 1950. After falling into disrepair the conservatory was given a £200,000 only to be vandalised shortly after it was reopened in 2019. This damage has since been repaired and the conservatory once again is a focal point Photo: Kevin McGuinness
2. Worden Hall and Park
Another image of the conservatory at Worden Hall, which was also used as a greenhouse. You can just about make out the disrepair of the building behind and broken windows on the conservatory itself Photo: Archive
3. Worden Hall and Park
Taken in 1974 this image shows the pavilion on Worden Park Photo: Archive
4. Worden Hall and Park
This interesting image shows the North Lodge at Worden Park in Leyland. What is interesting is that it was taken in 1950 - before the splendid Worden Hall was mostly destroyed in a fire. This would have been the main entrance to this imposing estate and is now used by the many visitors the park has daily Photo: Archive
