CCTV appeal launched after two teenagers attacked and robbed by group of men brandishing weapons in Accrington

Detectives investigating an armed robbery in Accrington released CCTV images of two people “who could be key witnesses” in the investigation.

A 19-year-old man got out of his vehicle in Birtwistle Street when he was immediately approached by a black saloon vehicle.

The victim and another 19-year-old passenger were then attacked and threatened by four men brandishing weapons.

Both victims had their mobile phones stolen by the attackers who then fled the scene in the black saloon car.

The incident occurred at around 11pm on Thursday, August 11.

Det Sgt Steve Craig, of East CID, said: “We have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this case and reassurance patrols have been increased in the area as a precaution.”

The attackers – believed to be in their 20s – were described as two black men, an Asian man with a beard and a white man.

One of the suspects – described as black, 6ft tall, with short dark hair – was tracked to Abbey Street, Accrington, at around 12.20am.

On Friday (August 19), police released CCTV images of a man and a woman who spoke to the suspect.

“We need your help identifying the two people in the CCTV images who could be key witnesses,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

The suspect – who spoke with a London accent and walked with a noticeable limp – used one of their phones before sharing a taxi with them to Owen Street.
