At a sitting of Preston Magistrates, the court was told that on August 14, 2021, Carl Atkinson, 37, of Central Drive, Penwortham, assaulted emergency workers PC Smith and PC Chaudhury by beating them. Originally pleading not guilty to the charges brought before him, Atkinson, who was held in custody, changed his plea to guilty which was taken into account when imposing a sentence. His jail sentence had been suspended as he is now a father and the impact immediate incarceration would have on family.
He was also ordered to carry out unpaid work for 150 hours within the next 12 months which would be supervised by the responsible officer and had to pay a total of £578 which included a surcharge to fund victim services of £128.
