Lorries could be banned from key town route after numerous crashes recorded
Dawson Lane, which is a narrow and winding road with an unrestricted speed limit, has seen numerous crashes over the years.
Pensioners who live along Dawson Lane, Derek Nuttall, 69 and Norman Youles, 78, both want to see HGVs stopped from turning down the road.

Hide AdThey hope it will mean a fewer accidents on the busy cut through.
Derek said: “The number of cars and HGVs on the road has increased significantly since Buckshaw Village.
“The A6 junction is not appropriate for large commercial vehicles, there’s been many accidents at the end of Dawson Lane.”
Norman added: “Stop the big wagons coming along.
“They are causing big back logs of cars behind them with six or seven cars at the back, following it.”

Hide AdCounty councillor for Chorley North Mark Perks has been campaigning for the road to have a weight restrictions put on it since 2005 so that HGVs are prohibited from using it.
He said: “At long last LCC has agreed to consult on a possible weight restriction to be imposed along Dawson Lane.
“This has taken me absolutely years of campaigning for safety improvement to be implemented on this road.
“Dawson Lane has had a number of tragic road accidents at the A6 junction in Whittle le Woods.

Hide Ad“This road is not suitable for HGVs but without police saying they will be able to enforce it there’s no point.”
Borough coun Eric Bell, who represents Clayton-le-Woods and Whittle-le-Woods, said: “Dawson Lane is a real accident hot spot. We’ve had cars going into walls and motorbikers flattened.
“It will be a lot better when the wagons are stopped from coming down here.
“I think Satnavs direct drivers down here but there’s no need because they can go through Ordnance Road in Buckshaw Village.”

Hide AdLancashire County Council has confirmed that a consultation will take place – probably in the summer.
Spokesman for the authority Mike Warren said: “We’ve carried out a review of traffic on Dawson Lane in conjunction with the police and are due to consult on a proposal to introduce a weight restriction in the coming months.”
