Alan Irvine is backing his Preston North End players to bounce back from the painful derby defeat to Burnley when they host Swansea at Deepdale tonight.
The PNE boss believes a swift return to action is far better than having a full week to mull over the 3-1 reverse, and is confident events at Turf Moor will be out of Preston's system by the time they tackle Roberto Martinez's side.

Irvine admits to being 'hurt' by the Burnley defeat and seems likely to make changes for this evening's clash, some enforced and others voluntary.

One switch will see Jay McEveley make his debut at left-back after signing on a month's loan from Derby.

He replaces Michael Hart who is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage sustained in the first half on Saturday, although X-rays have confirmed no bone fracture.

Richard Chaplow has also joined Hart in the treatment room, the midfielder suffering from a hamstring strain.

Irvine told the Evening Post: "My job has been to pick the lads up after the Burnley game.

"It has hurt everybody here. I know some people look from the outside and think a defeat doesn't hurt us, but it does.

"It was important we got back to work quickly, we did so by training on Sunday morning and then having a really good
session yesterday.

"When we went six games undefeated I wasn't getting too carried away, and it's important we don't over react when we lose. We have to be as calm in making decisions when you lose, as you would when you have won a match. Obviously tonight I have to make some changes because we've lost Hart, Davidson and Chaplow.

"I will look again at the whole squad – there will be changes but I won't go overboard either."

Didn't Alan Irvine say exactly the same after the Wolves game? 6 goals against in 2 games needs to be addressed, hope the loan signing from Derby reserves can help stem the flow.

Derby reserves?? He started the first four matches for Derby this season. I hope Al does make changes tonight, with Brown playing it would be great to see two natural wide players with pace. Whaley and wallace must be involved tonight, but then who do you drop?

Some of the people who post on here amaze me,do they not realise that being a football fan of a team such as PNE is all about ups and downs, you have to take the rough with the smooth. No doubt we will be back to the normal 11000/12000 tonight who need to get behind the team and not jump on the first mistake that someone makes. It will be a tough game tonight as they lost 4-0 on Saturday but I am confident that we can win.

Nicholson and McKenna in the middle tonight please Alan. You know it makes sense. Wallace on the lhs to provide much needed width.

Alan Irvine said he was sticking with the same team against Burnley, this has now proved to be a mistake, he needs to make a couple of changes, if the forwards are not producing the goals then they have to be replaced, same goes for any players in any position. 6 goals conceded in 2 games is not good enough, i know pne are not expected to win all there games, but this is the time to collect the point. both Wolves, Reading are a force to be dealt with. there are other teams like Birmingham, Qpr performing well to, it is looking like a play off place again. i agree, with bexy54, there are going to be ups and downs, but there has to be support to get behind the team.

I have no doubt alan will sort it out ,nicholson in the middle with mckenna, wallace and whaley wide.still think alan should bring in central midfielder thats were we are lacking, someone to put foot on the ball not had that since brian oneil hopefully back to winning ways tonight.

i missed Parkins debut when apparently he was good, since then its been like having 10 men playing when he's on the pitch so i hope Brown starts and Parkin gets his act together or thats a lot of money wasted
