Preston North End have signed Derby County's Jay McEveley on loan to solve their left-back shortage.
The former Blackburn defender travelled to Deepdale on Monday morning to join on a month's loan and is likely to make his debut against Swansea on Tuesday night.

North End boss Alan Irvine is without Michael Hart and Callum Davidson for the Swansea clash, Hart having been stretchered off during the derby defeat to Burnley with an ankle injury.

X-rays have revealed the former Aberdeen player has not broken his ankle, but he's still set for a spell on the sidelines.

Davidson replaced him at Turf Moor but was later sent-off for deliberate handball, his one-match ban ruling him out of the Swans' visit to Deepdale.

McEveley, 22, kicked off his career at Blackburn, making 27 appearances, and had loan spells at Burnley, Gillingham and Ipswich.

He joined Derby for £600,000 in January last year - Billy Davies taking him to Pride Park - but has recently fallen out of favour with Paul Jewell.

His last appearance for the Rams came against Swansea 10 earlier this month.

Short term merasure to solve an unplanned problem.

Who would have thought that after selling Hill we would suddenly lose Hart and Callum.

At least we won't have to play people out of position like Jones at Left Back or Wallace there.

Off the subject. I keep looking at Gudjohnsons goal on saturday and i cant help thinking that Lonners should have tipped it over the bar. I know im going to get some stick for this but its just how i see it. I can only imagine he saw it late

mickypne, i agree with you, i thought lonners should have had it and why wasnt gudjohnson closed down. what i cant understand is we have no outlet on the wings, sedge cant do it, nicholson is ouy of position. why isnt whalley on the right wing and we offered 1 million for wallace, get him on a season loan and dont play him. i hope al isnt like simmo and play his favourites when they are clearly not good enough

Oh well at least only the faithful will turn up tomorrow now we have lost 2 in a row, there will be no gloryhunters, I reckon we'll be lucky to break 11,000, BTW check out this on the bbc sport website about Greegs, a cracking article if I may say so http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2008/09/gregan_leading_the_dads_army_a.html#037327

why wait until a suspension or injury to bring players in???

cos players don't want to come on loan to sit in the stand waiting for an opportunity to play.

That's true, Revkieth.

It does beg the question about how happy are the people who are already here at sitting in the stands?

I would like to see Al rotate the team a bit more, nothing drastic, but it must be very de-motivational to quite a large number of the squad to know that they have little chance of a game. I can't believe Elliot or Wallace came here with any expectation other than first team football, or they would have stayed where they were.

Secondly, when players are brought into the team, they must be rusty if they've been out of the frame for a long time. Take Matty Hill - with a run in the team he became a good player, but he never shone when dropped in for odd games.

Thirdly, if I were an opposition manager, surely it's easier to prepare against a team when you are virtually guaranteed to know the starting line-up in advance.

We have a good squad at the moment, I'd like to see it used a bit more. Having said all that, I still believe Al knows exactly what he's doing, and desn't need any lessons off me!
