Tributes paid to Morecambe's FA Trophy-winning skipper

Writing on Facebook, he said: “After nine days of solid defending, Covid-19 has been the only opposing player who dad couldn’t chop down, at the knees, with a two-footed challenge.

A defender who had been around the non-league scene with Netherfield, Horwich RMI and Fleetwood, Baldwin joined Morecambe in August 1967.
He was brought to the club by Ken Waterhouse, who was looking for a replacement for Paul Scott and decided to pay Fleetwood £90.
His time at the club saw Morecambe win their last Combination championship, along with the Lancashire Senior Cup and Combination Cup in 1967-68.

Hide AdEight seasons in the Northern Premier League were crowned by skippering the Shrimps to FA Trophy success in 1973-74.
There was also a Lancashire Junior Cup win in 1968-69 and a Lancashire Senior Cup final in 1973-74.
He was released in April 1976, moving on to manage BAC (Preston) between 1976 and 1978.
The Shrimps Trust also added their condolences, posting on Twitter: “The Trust are very sorry to hear of the passing of Morecambe FC legend, Bob Baldwin. The captain of the FA Trophy-winning side of 1974 joined the Shrimps for the sum of £90 from Fleetwood in August 1967. Our thoughts are with Bob’s family at this sad time.”
