Garstang suffer trophy heartache in cup final
Mark Walling’s men were shot out for just 99 as their batsmen were given a torrid time by Nathan Chambers, who took an impressive 7-23.
He certainly made the most of the familiar conditions as Netherfield took full advantage of being at home.

Hide AdEarlier they had posted a challenging score of 185-9 from their allotted 40 overs. Bradley Earl top scored with 43 and Lewis Richardson hit 33.
Danny Gilbert (3-28) and Parwez Khan Ahmadzai (3-29) were the pick of Garstang’s bowlers. The Riversiders made a decent start in reply as Naqib Rahman (34) helped them to 41 without loss.
However, it all turned ugly after that as they lost 10 wickets for just 58 runs. Marc Hadwin also chipped in with 3-11.
It turned out to be a weekend to forget all round for Walling’s men as they were well beaten by Penrith in the Northern League Division One at Tynefield Park.

Hide AdJames Price struck 64 and Greg Hall struck 57 as the hosts posted a sizeable 203-5.
In reply, Garstang could only muster 118 all out with Mark Walling contributing 46. Price followed-up his half-century with 5-22.
Elsewhere, Fulwood and Broughton moved back out of the relegation zone thanks in the main to a splendid century form Charlie Rossiter.
He finished unbeaten on 104 as F&B posted a considerable 232-4.

Hide AdChorley never got close to overhauling the total as they were bowled out for 156. Wian van Zyl hit a half-century and Simon Kerrigan took 4-40.
Morecambe slipped into the bottom two after being well beaten by leaders Blackpool at Woodhill Lane.
Richard Gleeson took 7-43 as the hosts were bowled out for a paltry 88. It would have been a lot worse for them without Luke Jongwe’s fine 47.
In reply, Blackpool cruised to victory for the loss of one wicket off 21 overs. Syed Kazmi struck 48.

Hide AdLeyland put a slight spanner in the works of Netherfield’s title challenge as they frustrated the Cumbrians at Parkside Road. Ben Barrow (94) and Josh Dixon (80 not out) put on 152 for the first wicket as the hosts put on 220-7. Andrew Makinson took 5-76.
Tom Reece hit a battling half-century for Leyland as they denied Netherfield an outright victory by finishing on 146-5.
Rock-bottom Preston’s season plumbed new depths as not one batsman was able to reach double figures. Thomas Bradley took 6-25 for St Annes as the men from West Cliff were all out for 56.
The visitors then raced to victory inside 16 overs without loss.
In the final match of the weekend, Barrow were 40-run winners over Fleetwood.
