Preston North End fans could face parking restrictions on match days after complaints from frustrated residents.
Highways chiefs are carrying out a traffic survey in Watling Street Road to see if the parking problem can be solved.

Residents have complained about supporters' cars blocking access or making it difficult to see when they are reversing onto the road.

Preston North East councillor Michael Welsh said: "There are numerous problems in Watling Street Road.

"It is very difficult because there is no easy solution.

"It is all very well to say put in parking restrictions but residents could then have nowhere to park.

"Maybe one of the things that could done would be to introduce restrictions on parking on match days only."

Stagecoach have introduced a Footyrider shuttle bus service to North End games this season to try to reduce the number of spectators travelling by car and clogging up residential streets.

Ben Rhodes, general manager at North End, said: "We have worked with Stagecoach to set up the scheme and we want to get as many people using public transport as we can.

"We've got £1-a-day car parking at Moor Park School and quite a significant amount of parking at Deepdale. There are still some spaces for sale."

The traffic survey will focus on the stretch of Watling Street Road opposite Fulwood Barracks.

Measures to address parking problems on other parts of the street are also being looked at, including extending no waiting restrictions between Bedford Road and Fulwood Hall Lane to improve visibilty at junctions.

A Lancashire County Council spokesman said: "We intend to consult local residents on the proposals as part of a wider traffic regulation order consultation in coming weeks."

Well Fancy parking your car at the side of the road, when there's all them drive ways to park in. Keep the Road clear, share Mr Angry's Drive way. Problem solved.

I'm sure that the football club was around long before the complainers moved there. They should stop their whinging and get on Deepdale on a Saturday afternoon.

How about this for an idea introduce a share a driveway scheme people who have space on their drive way could team up with North End fans and charge them to park on their drive for a small fee. with a bit of planning evrybody wins homeowner makes a few quid football fans get a safe place to park evry week, and the road is kept clear for the council. easy.

Chris don't be so ridiculous! Your suggestion is far too sensible to be considered by those in authority! I'm sure there will be some sort of 'legislation' that means your sensible suggestion can't even be looked at!

Ben Rhodes says there is a £1-a-day parking at Moor Park School. We were told that there was no parking at any of the local school's this season and the only way to park on the North End car parks was to buy a ticket for the season.Or have things changed, if so it would have nice of the club to let us know.

I was recently turned away from the Moor Park School car park and have twice returned to find my car vandalised when parked in the street off St Thomas' Road. I now come by bus but it adds over 2 hours each way to my journey time.

I pulled into the car park off St Thomas' Rd, to be informed it was 5 quid. For two hours parking? London prices, almost. Disgraceful. There should be a park and ride from the docks, or something?

Yet again this issue raises it's head. Deepdale was there before any of the residents & when buying their houses they will have been aware that once a fortnight fans will want to park near the ground & it will be a "bit busy". If you dont like it then dont live there! What would you rather happen? Create a big car park on Moor Park & deny you that facility? Why not join the rest & support your team & then the parking issue wouldnt be a problem?

Football fans again being treated like second class citizens. The cars are taxed & insured & yet the fans are harrassed & discouraged from attending the game. Football is a form of worship, a pilgrimage to join with others in a common cause.
No wonder attendances are falling. People are being encouraged to stay at home in isolation & worship the box ( TV) in the corner of the room & pay homage to Rupert Murdoch's Sky & to Setanta.
Football is a community event bringing people together. Does this frighten our politicians?
