Come on all you gorgeous Lancashire lasses – where were you when the crown was up for grabs?
The title of Miss Lancashire 2008 didn't go to a beauty from Ribbleton, Ribchester or even Rufford.

Instead, it was won by teenager Athena Edwards from Runcorn in Cheshire who went on to represent the county in the Miss England final.

After coming second runner-up in this year's Miss Halton Pride contest, the 17-year-old was told she could enter Lancashire's competition.

The Liverpool FC fan said: "I went back to the organiser and said 'I want to win, where can I go?' and they said, there's an open place for Lancashire.

"The girl who won Halton Pride wasn't from Halton. And at Miss Lancashire, there were a few others who weren't from Lancashire.

"I thought it would be catty and a bit bitchy but all the girls were really nice. Now I've got pageant fever."

Despite her non-Lancashire roots Athena is thrilled to be representing the area after beating around 16 other girls at the final held in Fleetwood.

She said: "I think Lancashire's beautiful. As soon as you drive down the motorway, you can see the countryside."

She flew the flag for local shop Anastasia Bridalwear in Hough Lane, Leyland, by wearing one of its dresses at the Miss England finals in London which was won by Miss Derby, Laura Coleman.
